This piece earned the Johnny Mandel Prize, the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, and placed 1st in the USA Songwriting Competition (Jazz). I restricted myself from writing any consecutive major or minor 3rds or 6ths in any of the melody lines, but only used 3rds and 6ths in the root motion of the harmony. It led to some very interesting sounds I never would have come up with otherwise!
Includes both transposed and concert scores, parts for alto sax, piano/synth, electric bass, and drum set, and an additional concert part for lead instruments other than alto sax. Score is formatted for tabloid size paper in landscape orientation, parts formatted for US letter size paper in portrait orientation.
