This piece is meant to evoke the feeling of distant memories that you think you remember fondly, but with the bittersweet pain of knowing their clarity fades with time and you'll never be able to remember them exactly as they were. The one-note bass figure in the beginning is a morse-code translation of an excerpt from the poem “Music, When Soft Voices Die” by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
